Estimating photoevaporative mass loss of exoplanets with PLATYPOS

نویسندگان

چکیده

We develop PLATYPOS (PLAneTarY PhOtoevaporation Simulator), a python code to perform planetary photoevaporative mass-loss calculations for close-in planets with hydrogen-helium envelopes atop Earth-like rocky cores. With physical and model parameters as input, calculates the atmospheric mass loss it radius evolution of planet over time, taking into account also thermal cooling subsequent planet. In particular, we implement different stellar activity tracks time. Our setup allows prediction whether can hold on significant fraction its atmosphere, or fully evaporates, leaving behind only bare core. The user supplies information about star-planet system interest, which includes host star parameters, well star's rotational thus evolution. addition, several details evaporative rate estimation be chosen. This effective absorption cross-section high energy photons, evaporation efficiency, hydrodynamic escape model.

ESTIMATING THE MEAN OF INVERSE GAUSSIAN DISTRIB WTION WITH KNOWN COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION UNDER ENTROPY LOSS

An estimation problem of the mean µ of an inverse Gaussian distribution IG(µ, C µ) with known coefficient of variation c is treated as a decision problem with entropy loss function. A class of Bayes estimators is constructed, and shown to include MRSE estimator as its closure. Two important members of this class can easily be computed using continued fractions

Ranges of Atmospheric Mass and Composition of Super-earth Exoplanets

Terrestrial-like exoplanets may obtain atmospheres from three primary sources: capture of nebular gases, degassing during accretion, and degassing from subsequent tectonic activity. Here we model degassing during accretion to estimate the range of atmospheric mass and composition on exoplanets ranging from 1 to 30 Earth masses. We use bulk compositions drawn from primitive and differentiated me...

Models of very-low-mass stars, brown dwarfs and exoplanets

Within the next few years, GAIA and several instruments aiming to image extrasolar planets will be ready. In parallel, low-mass planets are being sought around red dwarfs, which offer more favourable conditions, for both radial velocity detection and transit studies, than solar-type stars. In this paper, the authors of a model atmosphere code that has allowed the detection of water vapour in th...

Abundances in stars with exoplanets

Extensive spectroscopic studies of stars with and without planets have concluded that stars hosting planets are significantly more metal-rich than those without planets. More subtle trends of different chemical elements begin to appear as the number of detected extrasolar planetary systems continues to grow. I review our current knowledge concerning the observed abundance trends of various chem...

Lithium in stars with exoplanets⋆

We present a comparison of the lithium abundances of stars with and without planetary-mass companions. New lithium abundances are reported in 79 planet hosts and 38 stars from a comparison sample. When the Li abundances of planet host stars are compared with the 157 stars in the sample of field stars of Chen et al. (2001) we find that the Li abundance distribution is significantly different, an...
